Young Mother Lost Her Life in Crash With 18 Wheeler

On Tuesday October 20, a young mother lost her life in a crash with an 18 wheeler.

According to Alabama State Troopers the accident happened at approximately 8.15 a.m. at the intersection where Dunavant Valley Road and Narrows Parkway meet Highway 280.

They went on to say that 25 year old Jordan Alexa Mays, of Birmingham was killed when her 2008 Honda CR-V was in collision with a 18 wheeler. The impact caused both vehicles to be pushed hundreds of feet down an embankment coming to rest at the edge of a parking lot. Mays was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The force of the impact caused the left hand side of the SUV to be pushed over to the right side and amazingly Mays’ eight month old son, Maddoc, appears to have escaped serious injury and was taken to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham where his condition was described as good. The driver of the 18 wheeler, 39 year old Chassidy Renae Garner-James, of Holly Springs was taken to Grandview Medical Center as a precaution.

Witnesses commented that the volume of traffic and steep hills make this a dangerous area. Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate the cause of this tragic accident.
