Early on Saturday, November 12, a Fairfield man was killed in a single vehicle crash in Midfield.
According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office the crash happened shortly after 3 a.m. in the 700 block of Bessemer Super Highway. James Anthony Chess Jr., aged 26 was a passenger in a Nissan Altima traveling southbound at a high rate of speed when the driver loss control. Having lost control the car left the roadway and crashed into the yard of a home, where it rolled several times before coming to a rest upside down. Both Chess and the driver were ejected from the vehicle.
Both were taken to UAB Hospital, where Chess was pronounced dead at shortly before 4 a.m. There was no additional information available about the driver and his condition.
Midfield police are continuing to investigate the accident.
