Two Teens Die in Single Vehicle Accident

On Tuesday afternoon, July 5, two teens died in a single vehicle accident in Chambers County.

According to Alabama State Troopers the accident happened shortly after noon, on rural County Road 299 some three miles south of Lanett in Chambers County, between Huguley and Cusseta.

Autumn Thompson, aged14 of Cusseta and her 15 year old boyfriend David Smith of Lanett were passengers in a 2013 Kia Soul. Neither of them were wearing seatbelts. The vehicle left the road and hit a guardrail on the side of the road near the Osanippa Creek Bridge. Both teens were declared dead at the scene.

The driver, who was aged 18, was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Law enforcement has not yet decided if charges will be filed against the driver in the crash. Toxicology results are awaited and it is thought that speed might have been a factor.
