On Monday, March 7, a woman was killed in a fatal wreck in Fort Payne.
Acording to Fort Payne police the accident happened at the 900 block of Glenn Blvd SW. A Jeep Wrangler being driven by 23 year old Deana M. Betz of Fort Payne left its lane and ran into the rear of a parked log truck. She was treated for minor injuries and then arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Her passenger, 20 year old Kimberly Michelle Beattie of Scottsboro was taken to Dekalb Regional Hospital and then transferred to Erlanger Health Systems where she was pronounced dead.
Betz was subsequently also charged with manslaughter.
The driver of the log truck was not injured.
In addition, another arrest unrelated to the crash was made at the scene when 43 year old Davy Keith Betz, of Fort Payne was charged with disorderly conduct.
The accident is still under investigation.
